JPA's EcoVadis Gold Rating (2024)

Update, August 2026: since this article was published we have been awarded EcoVadis Platinum for the second year running, with an overall score of 93 out of 100. Platinum represents the top 1% of all companies assessed. The article below records our 2024 Gold rating and explains how the EcoVadis assessment works.

What is EcoVadis?

EcoVadis is the world’s largest sustainability ratings provider, having rated over 150,000 companies. EcoVadis ratings give a holistic view of a company’s sustainability performance, enabling them to assess and share their current performance and what they have to do to improve.

Founded in Paris in 2007, EcoVadis has grown to become the largest sustainability ratings provider across 175 countries with a mission to: provide reliable, globally recognised sustainability ratings and insights, enabling all companies to reduce risk, drive improvement, and accelerate positive impact on our planet and society.

JPA’s Gold EcoVadis rating

JPA were delighted to receive an EcoVadis Gold rating in March 2024, placing us in the top 5% of all companies rated that year. It allowed us to benchmark our performance against competitors and peers, and it provided a corrective action and continuous improvement plan to raise our score going forward.

That plan worked. We have since moved from Gold to Platinum, and held Platinum for a second consecutive year at a score of 93 out of 100. What that means in practice for clients specifying furniture or answering their own supply chain questions is set out in our latest article on the Platinum rating.

How does a company become rated?

To become EcoVadis-rated, companies have to complete the EcoVadis assessment process, after which they receive an EcoVadis rating score. Having sustainability credentials independently verified by EcoVadis gives claims validity and ensures transparency and accountability.

Why an EcoVadis rating is important

A good score is important as it differentiates businesses, improves brand reputation and can make the difference when hiring, securing investment and attracting new customers. Research suggests over 90% of companies take sustainability ratings into consideration when making purchasing decisions.

EcoVadis ratings help establish supply chain sustainability. Buyers can use customised questionnaires through EcoVadis for a better understanding of supply chain sustainability risks and to improve procurement practices.

Covering every aspect of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) factors, EcoVadis is widely considered the benchmark for measuring a company’s overall sustainability performance. Increasingly it is also used as a tool for companies to assess the sustainability performance of their own suppliers, which is why it matters as much to our clients as it does to us. Our approach to sustainable office design is built on the same principle: every figure should be evidenced.

How EcoVadis ratings are scored

Companies receive their EcoVadis score results six to eight weeks after submitting the questionnaire. They receive a score for each theme, an overall score between 1 and 100, and a corresponding annually updated sustainability rating across four medal categories: bronze, silver, gold and platinum.

The Platinum rating is reserved for the top 1% of companies assessed; Gold is for the top 5%; Silver for the top 25%; and Bronze for the top 50%. The score bands that correspond to each medal are reviewed annually.

Companies that score below 50 overall, below 30 in any of the Environment, Labour & Human Rights or Ethics themes, or below 25 in Sustainable Procurement, do not receive a rating badge at all.

Because the assessment is repeated annually, a rating is a statement about current practice rather than a permanent credential — which is the main reason we regard holding Platinum twice as more meaningful than reaching it once.
