JPA Speak at The Big Zero

Written by JPA Workspaces | 2024 Jul

JPA's Head of Sustainability Fiona Edwards MEMA, CEnv, CMgr was delighted to be asked to speak at this year's Big Zero Show at the Coventry Arena on 2nd and 3rd July.

On day one, Fiona presented in the Pathway to Net Zero Content Zone, talking specifically about JPA's Net Zero Strategy, how it had evolved and our key focus areas - namely energy, products and waste. With scope emissions planning in place and JPA on track to exceed interim targets, the session outlined how furniture waste can also cause harmful impacts on virgin resources and biodiversity, air quality and health.

Fiona also gave some useful tips to get the most out of procurement spend, optimising both financial and carbon investment.

The presentation on Day 2 was more personal, taking place in the Big Zero Lecture Theatre, and one of several designed to showcase the different routes available into environmental and sustainability careers.   Here Fiona gave an insight into how she became and environmental and later sustainability manager, illustrating the continual need to move from the known to the unknown in order to keep up with the rate of change needed to address decarbonisation challenges.

"Obviously I was a little nervous” said Fiona "but Big Zero is a fantastic event full of like minded people. We're all facing this challenge together so sharing knowledge and resources makes sense to accelerate collective progress - we can all contribute".
